Undergraduate Minors/Certificates in Clinical Laboratory Sciences

Clinical Laboratory Sciences (Minors 23-25 credits) (Certificates 14-55 credits)

The Minor/Certificate programs in Clinical Laboratory Sciences are appropriate for students with a major in the basic or life sciences that also have a professional career interest in the disciplines of laboratory medicine, human laboratory diagnostics, and/or pathophysiology.

The minor/certificate programs provide students with the opportunity continue in their current undergraduate major and also to be eligible for national board and state licensing exams as a Generalist in CLS or individual CLS disciplines. Students may complete one or more of the following CLS discipline course sets within the upper-division CLS Program curriculum culminating in a supervised training practicum in a licensed clinical laboratory setting.

Due to accreditation and legal liability requirements for clinical practicum experiences, students must apply for the minor and/or certificate and meet the same eligibility requirements and standards as students fully admitted into the CLS Program.  In addition, students must undergo a criminal background check and drug testing prior to clinical training.

Science Foundation Prerequisites for Minor/Certificates in CLS (except Specimen Collection & Processing):  BIOL 189, 196, 223/224 (or 197/208), CHEM 121, 122, 220 (or 241), and HSC 300
